In Scots law, the Crown can claim ownerless property. Where we deal with property, its realised value is paid by the QLTR into the Scottish Consolidated Fund. The QLTR's Policies set out the Office's approach to dealing with particular types of property and assets. See also our sections on ownerless property, unclaimed personal estates and the claiming, valuation and allocation of portable antiquities found in Scotland.
The Crown's representative in Scotland is the Queen’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer (QLTR). The current QLTR is David Harvie, the Crown Agent. The QLTR is supported by the QLTR department.
This site also hosts information about the National Ultimus Haeres Unit, Hamilton (NUHU). And see also: Reporting a death and unclaimed estates.
Coronavirus
We have changed the way we work in response to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) outbreak and would ask that all communication with the QLTR office is by email only.
Email us at: enquiries@qltr.gov.uk. Unless we have asked you to send us original documents by post, please otherwise send us scanned copies only, in PDF format, attached to your email. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide an update on this website if there any changes.
